Dectet

Any trombonist worth his/her salt knows about the great 1970 recording (Tutti’s Trombrones) of 10 of the best West coast players for this dectet recording of now classic tunes. The players included Dick Nash, Frank Rosolino, Tommy Pederson, Lloyd Ulate, Joe Howard, Hoyt Bohannon, Glibert Falco, Herbie Harper, Kenny Shroyer and Ernie Tack.

It is the standard for the genre. In the early 1980’s a group of Nashville players recorded all new locally written pieces for their ten man project “Ten Trombone Machine”.

On June 20, I finally was able to get a group of 10 players and rhythm section to read some of these charts and threw in the 8 part J and K Stardust. Ohhhhh was it fun. We hope to find a venue for us to perform many of these tunes.

The players included Wes Ramsay, Oscar Utterstrom, Tim Myrto, Seth Weaver, Lynn Lewis, Paula Herrmann, Don Bloomquist, Jim Jones and Rob Sherrill.

Our super rhythm section included Joe Davidian on Piano, Stephen Lewis on guitar, Bob Rannells on bass and John Zic on drums.

Thanks to all  who indulged my dream.
